Plymouth College of Art and Millfields Community Development Trust have come together to create a unique and visionary company to provide sampling services to the fashion industry. Makers HQ is a new joint venture with a strong focus on achieving ethical, British manufacture.
As the previous home of the Jaeger factory, Plymouth has a heritage in fashion and textile manufacture that we wish to celebrate and evolve. We want to reignite the fashion manufacturing sector within the area and reimagine how a fashion factory can drive economic and community regeneration.
Makers HQ is an exciting opportunity to bring together academic institutions, businesses, designers, makers and the community to creative a sustainable and innovative business model. We want to drive regeneration through job creation, graduate retention, innovation in fashion manufacture and training opportunities situated at the heart of the community.
We are seeking an experienced Pattern Cutter to join our team here at Makers HQ. Our pattern cutters job is to draft new patterns for clients from an initial sketch, and support them with their product development. Naturally as a pattern cutter you will have excellent technical knowledge and skill. You will supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in marking, reproducing, and assembling commercial paper garment patterns for use by manufacturers. As a pattern cutter, you will also modify new patterns, using a superb knowledge of mathematics and pattern cutting principles. You will also be able to determine layout for various pattern sizes to prevent waste and estimate material yardage required as well as training new pattern cutters to mark, reproduce, and assemble patterns.
